DAVIS WINS GRAYS ATHLETIC CONTRACT

28/07/08

By BILLY SHAW

LAST season’s Harlow Town Player of the Year has this week received the news he’s been waiting for.

Blue Square Premier side Grays Athletic have snapped up 20-year-old Kenny Davis on an initial one-year contract following a successful trial period.

A delighted Kenny spoke to the Hawks’ website after hearing the news: “I was told on Friday about the contract. I’ve been playing right back in the last few weeks, but I’ll hopefully work my way into the starting team like I’d have to at any club.”

He went on to explain his new regimes at Grays: “Training has been a lot different being at a full time club. It’s been very hard with the gym sessions and swimming.

“I’ve made an appearance in all of Grays’ pre-season games so far, including one where I played for the full 90 minutes.”

Davis joined Harlow Town before the start of the 2005/06 season, and was a key member of Ryan Kirby’s promotion-winning side in 2006/07.

He played in central midfield in his first year at the club, before moving out to the right side, where his performance last season saw him clean up at Harlow’s end of season awards ceremony.

Davis played his final game for the Hawks on 26th April 2008 at home to East Thurrock United, and he insists he’ll miss his team mates: “I miss the people from Harlow. I was there for three seasons and got to know a lot of people pretty well, people like ‘Chapo’ (Danny Chapman) and the rest of the boys.”

Harlow Town FC would like to thank Kenny Davis for his services over the last three seasons, and wish him the very best at Grays Athletic.
