DANNY Chapman’s ninth Harlow goal combined with a series of acrobatic saves from James Hasell couldn’t stop the Hawks from feeling the sting of the Bees.

Defender Chapman sensationally equalised in the first half, heading home his first goal since last season’s FA Cup win over Concord Rangers, but League Two side Barnet overpowered his side in the end.

Hawks guardian James Hasell stood in the way of the visitors’ early attempts to break the deadlock, at first by robbing Adam Birchall at his feet after the Barnet frontman beat the defence.

A Barnet side largely unchanged from that which faced Arsenal at the weekend took the lead eight minutes in after Birchall won a penalty kick from Danny Green for a handball offence, with the striker coolly slotting into the bottom corner of the net despite Hasell almost reaching it.

Beckett Hollenbach headed wide following a Leon Lalite corner, which was brought about after a corner from Clark Akers on the other side of goal had forced keeper Rob Beckwith to spoon behind on 16 minutes.

Hasell produced two fine saves in three minutes, first by punching away Birchall’s effort following a lively run from Albert Adomah, before standing tall in his area to block Adomah’s shot final shot after a Barnet break had left the away side with four players against one.

An in-swinging corner from Clark Akers clipped the bar on 29 minutes, before Mark Taylor swung in a cross from the right after a short corner from Lalite, with defender Danny Chapman rising to power a header into the centre of the net to equalise.

A touch of class from Paul Fairclough’s men saw Kieron St Aimie feed Adomah, forcing Hasell to glance the ball away in another spectacular denial.

The Harlow goalie blocked a low shot from Birchall two minutes before the break, but could only look on from a sprawled position on the ground as Adomah put the rebound away with an over-exaggerated volley to restore his side’s advantage.

Skipper James Bunn’s shot was well saved by Barnet keeper Beckwith, before his header from Lalite’s corner was agonisingly cleared off the line by Adomah in the dying seconds of the half.

Harlow made no less than seven substitutes on 57 minutes, with the queue of players standing outside the dugout waiting to be introduced resembling a crowded bus stop!

Three out of the four defenders were replaced, as were both strikers.

Michael Gliddon cleared the danger just before the hour mark after Danny Hart broke forward, but Barnet came back on the assault with Kieron St Aimie shooting straight at substitute goalkeeper Michael Dumoulin.

Danny Green headed wide from a Clark Akers 62nd minute free kick, before Barnet’s Luke Medley raced down the right on 69 minutes, rounding the committed Harlow keeper and slotting home professionally from a very tight angle.

A free kick from Lalite dropped wide of the near post a quarter of an hour from the end, before trialist Chris Groves sent a right-footed shot just over Beckwith’s bar after Ainsley Gasper headed on a ball out of the defence.

A snap shot from Luke Medley produced a good save from Dumoulin on 85 minutes, but the young keeper could do nothing to keep out a long range piledriver from Danny Hart which stunned everyone in the dying moments.
