UNDER 9s IN THE LIMELIGHT

01 April 2008

By BILLY SHAW

USUALLY the likes of James Bunn and Mark Taylor are on the receiving end of all the local media coverage, but last Saturday morning it was the turn of some of their junior counterparts.

The Harlow Town Under-9s Reds were featured on air as part of a mini soccer segment on Harlow-based radio station ten-17fm, just a few hours before the main Hawks side drew 1-1 at Margate.

The junior side’s skipper, Marcel Bellairs-Honiss was interviewed by ten-17fm presenter Tim Humphries about how his team is faring in the local Youth Community League.

The broadcast certainly boosted the confidence of the team, who drew 2-2 in their last game against Langley Colts Under-9s Mustangs.

Presenter Humphries told the Harlow Town FC official website: “ten-17fm loves the way the station can partner with what's going on right here on our doorstep, and it's always a pleasure to give support to the weekend mini leagues at Harlow Town FC.

“Lets be honest - they are working hard and crafting the skills of future players right here in the town,” he added.

The side were recently mascots for the first team at Barrows Farm for the game against Maidstone United.

You can listen to highlights of the radio interview below.
