THE Hawks took a point from their home game against Billericay Town on Easter Monday, and were unlucky not to take all three after a second half goal was disallowed.

Kenny Davis drilled home from close range, but his celebrations were cut short by an offside flag against Rhys Henry in a match which went ahead after the superb efforts of a group of volunteers who made the previously frozen and drenched surface playable.

The Hawks were also reduced to ten men in time added on following a clash between Bradley Woods-Garness and Leon Lalite, with the latter receiving his marching orders for a second yellow card.

After a quiet start to the game, a good move on the right in the 11th minute ended with James Bunn laying back a Mark Taylor cross at the near post for Kenny Davis, but the ball was intercepted, before seconds later, Jordan Fowler’s deep cross from the right clipped the head of a defender and the ball flew out for a corner.

From Mark Tayor’s flag kick, the ball arrived at the feet of Lalite on the far side of goal, and his deep cross from the right was met by a glancing header from James Bunn, which beat goalkeeper Ronnie Worster and flew inside the far post.

The visitors went up a gear and in the 17th minute, an angled shot from Tommy Tejan-Sie, on loan from Dagenham & Redbridge, was pushed away by Hawks stopper James Hasell, while six minutes later, Billy Bricknell’s header was saved by Hasell to his left, before Billericay equalized on 25 minutes.

Michael Black’s quickly-taken free kick sent Bricknell galloping down the right flank, and the Billericay forward pulled back for Tejan-Sie to slot past Hasell from close range.

Play was even until the 44th minute when a drive from Woods-Garness from the edge of the area went inches wide of a Harlow post.

Three minutes after the restart, a 25-yard effort from Leon Lalite was held by Worster in Billericay’s goal, but just two minutes later, the Hawks regained the lead with Rhys Henry’s first goal for the club.

Beckett Hollenbach’s throw from the left touchline found its way to Lalite, and he combined with James Bunn to set up the work experience player to efficiently tuck low past the keeper.

In the 57th minute, Danny Green’s shot was parried by Worster and when Rhys Henry crossed into the six yard box Kenny Davis netted, but Henry was penalized for an alleged off side offence and the goal didn’t stand.

The visitors leveled again with their very next attack. Woods-Garness intercepted the ball from Beckett Hollenbach and embarked on a solo run past a number of defenders, before shooting fiercely past Hasell.

Bricknell and Tejan-Sie went close again, before Danny Green slipped the ball to substitute James Lindie, who fired low across the area and won a corner ten minutes from time.

From the resulting Taylor kick, Rhys Henry’s far post shot was cleared off the line by defender Darren Blewitt, before Leon Lalite was booked for a bad tackle shortly afterwards.

In the 82nd minute, Billericay substitute Lee Hodges and Bricknell split open the Hawks defence on the left, but as the latter bore down on goal, Clark Akers tore across to brilliantly block his shot.

In a match that was fast becoming end-to-end, Hasell held onto a Paul Shave header, while at the other end an Akers cross was almost netted by skipper James Bunn at the near post.

With time running out, Bricknell released Woods-Garness leaving him just the keeper to beat, but Hasell forced him out wide causing him only to find the side netting.

In time added on, Lindie went close with a shot across the face of goal, before a scuffle near the halfway line between Lalite and Woods-Garness led to the Harlow midfielder’s dismissal for a second yellow card, with Woods-Garness also being booked by referee Chris Francis.

Harlow Tn: James Hasell, Kenny Davis, Mark Taylor (sub: Shaun Gliddon, 84), Beckett Hollenbach (sub: Clark Akers, 78), Ryan Kirby, Danny Chapman, Leon Lalite, Rhys Henry, James Bunn, Jordan Fowler (sub: James Lindie, 74), Danny Green. Subs not used: David Obaze, Michael Dumoulin (GK).
