A HEARTBREAK winner three minutes into added time stopped the Hawks from taking any points from their vital game with Maidstone.

Ryan Kirby’s men looked to be holding on for a point, although their position in the table on Saturday night – 17th place on goal difference – would indicate they needed all three.

But Mark Saunders had other ideas, putting away a cross deep into an elongated period of time added on to boost his own side’s chances of premier division survival.

All of Harlow’s players who were being shared with Cheshunt on a dual-registration deal were listed on the teamsheet, with Michael Gliddon starting in defence, and attackers Dean Williams and Danny Green named substitutes in the dugout.

New work experience signing Rhys Henry, the strike partner of James Lindie at Southend United’s youth set-up, impressed when he made his debut as a substitute, while Michael Dumoulin was preferred to James Hasell between the posts.

A clever through-ball from Kenny Davis sent Lindie clear on 12 minutes, but after rounding the keeper, he was thwarted by an excellent saving tackle from Mark Clarey.

Subsequently, Shaun Gliddon cleared off the line to deny Maidstone skipper Ben Lewis with a powerful header from Sam Tydeman’s corner, while at the other end, Mark Taylor repeatedly applied pressure on the right flank.

And following some good defending from Beckett Hollenbach to keep Nathan Paul at bay, it was Clark Akers whose effort from a similar position, to the right of the Stones’ area, forced a low stop from goalkeeper Steve Northwood two minutes before half time.

Harlow poured cold water on a lively start to the second half by their visitors, but this didn’t stop the Stones taking the lead in the 66th minute, when Ian Selly bent a low free kick around the wall and inside the near post after Ryan Kirby was penalized for an alleged foul on Alex Tiesse.

However, the home side drew level again within four minutes, with James Bunn rising high to head home a good Kenny Davis cross from near the byline on the right after the latter had been sent through by lively substitute Rhys Henry.

Harlow stopper Michael Dumoulin reacted quickly to pounce on a loose ball after spilling Mo Takalobighashi’s initial effort, with another Maidstone attacker in close proximity.

James Lindie would have been through on goal had he not be trapped offside 15 minutes from time, while Henry fired just wide a minute later after his short cross was blocked.

Dumoulin was forced to claw away a headed effort from his top left corner following a huge throw-in by Aaron Lacey on 81 minutes, before Dean Williams was needlessly booked for a push in the Maidstone area.

Kenny Davis also saw yellow on 90 minutes for hauling back Nathan Paul, before the visitors cruelly nicked the points in the third of an eventual six minutes of stoppage time, with Conor Hagan fighting off the best defensive efforts of David Obaze, before crossing to set up Mark Saunders to strike home.

Harlow Tn: Michael Dumoulin, Kenny Davis, Mark Taylor (sub: David Obaze, 75), Beckett Hollenbach, Ryan Kirby, Michael Gliddon, Shaun Gliddon, Clark Akers (sub: Rhys Henry, 57), James Bunn, Jordan Fowler, James Lindie (sub: Dean Williams, 85). Subs not used: Danny Green, James Hasell (GK).
