HARLOW’S new recruits from Southend made their mark as the Hawks eased into the second qualifying round of the FA Cup.

Rhys Henry, who has returned to Barrows Farm for a month-long loan after impressing while on work experience last season, bagged a second half brace.

And Roots Hall colleague Tashan Adeyinka exploded onto the scene as well, scoring with his first touch after coming on as a substitute.

Ryan Kirby again named himself in midfield, while Henry started up front in place of the injured James Bunn.

The opening goal came 14 minutes into the game when Clydie Roberts crossed to Jamie Richards in the area, who turned marker Sean Francis and rammed the ball into the net from close range.

After Gary Skerritt headed over for Aveley, Rhys Henry found Roberts unmarked at the edge of the box, but the midfielder put his shot wide with time and space in good supply on 25 minutes.

Shaun Gliddon put Henry through on the half-hour, but the swift attacker fired into the keeper’s chest, before Petrit Elbi headed marginally wide from skipper John Maskell’s free kick at the other end.

Nicky Wettner cued a shot over the bar, before Roberts made amends for his earlier miss by doubling the Hawks’ lead.

Richards fed Henry, who squeezed between two defenders and squared to Roberts for an easy tap-in with two minutes left until the break.

Harlow captain James Hasell had to react quickly in goal just before the break to stop Ben Bradbury’s cross, which was going in off defender Paul Kear.

A long clearance from Hasell 11 minutes after the restart saw Jamie Richards try to flick the ball over advancing goalie James Marrable, but the stopper stood tall and the striker’s effort lacked height.

A short corner from Wettner found Bradbury on 58 minutes, but he fired over the bar, before Rhys Henry increased Harlow’s comfort zone on the hour.

A defensive header by Danny Chapman was hooked up the field by Ryan Kirby, with Henry latching on and outstripping his marker, before rolling the ball past Marrable in a one-on-one situation.

Aveley didn’t let their heads drop and pulled a goal back mid-way through the second half, when a defensive error on the left let in Petrit Elbi, whose cross was easily headed in by half-time substitute Sean Thomas.

The fifth goal of the game went Harlow’s way as Henry once again created a three-goal cushion.

A clever exchange of passes with Clydie Roberts at the edge of the area ended when Henry took possession, turned and smashed into the roof of the net from close range with 81 minutes on the clock.

A Nicky Wettner free kick went straight at keeper James Hasell, before young work experience debutant Tashan Adeyinka came on as a 90th minute substitute.

And within 60 seconds, he was on the score sheet, finding the net with his first touch in a Harlow shirt.

A high defensive header from Paul Kear bounced over the Aveley defence, Adeyinka winning his aerial challenge with the keeper to nod into the net.

A frustrated Aveley player caused unrest in stoppage time, and Elbi was lucky to get away with only a booking after raising his hands in a tussle with Kear.
